5. Security

Startforce is very concerned with safeguarding your information. We employ reasonable measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access.

Data Center Our servers are maintained in a state-of-the-art datacenter located in the heart of Silicon Valley. The datacenter is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Access to the physical servers is logged and requires photo identification and a security badge. Additionally, the server cabinets are locked requiring a key to gain access. Only the most trusted Startforce personnel are authorized to access the servers.

Server Access We use the latest in firewall technology providing our Linux-based servers a high level of protection from unauthorized access. Secure shell (SSH) access to the servers is highly restricted. Linux passwords are regularly changed and administered by senior Startforce personnel. Startforce has multiple separate environments established to support our development and QA teams. Updates to our production servers are managed by a strict procedure. No one from the development or QA group has access to the production servers or data.

Data Encryption Sensitive data is stored in our database using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) technology. This is the same level of encryption approved and adopted by the NSA for top secret documents. We employ a double-blind encrypted dual-key to facilitate the AES encryption. There is no one person that is able to decrypt the secured data. All data transmissions from the client browser to the Startforce servers are encrypted using SSL. This is the same level of security used by major corporations when transmitting sensitive data such as credit card information across the Internet.

File Security and Encryption A user's Web Desktop files are stored on a series of redundant file servers in our datacenter. All access to the file system is controlled exclusively by our Data Storage Software layer. A user is only allowed to access the files stored in their personal area of the file server. We are extending the same high level of encryption (AES) that secure our passwords to the content of all the Web Desktop files hosted in our file system. This encryption is transparent to the user but is the ultimate protection to fully safeguard our client data.
